【短语来源】This expression originated in American football, used to describe a strategy for winning, worked out in advance. It dates from at least the 1940s, and by chance is actually recorded slightly earlier in a figurative use-for a plan of campaign in a non-sporting context-than in a literal one.
这个短语起源于美式足球，也就是橄榄球啦。它是指比赛中为求胜而提前制定的一种行动策略，最起码在20世纪40年代就已经开始使用。但在某种偶然情况下，这个词被形象地用于竞选活动中，它的意思也被丰富起来。
