我总以为，读，包括阅和诵，都是学英文极其紧要的手段，天赋若稍差——总不至于差到我这地步，又笨，又懒，还有常年过敏性鼻炎，严重影响记忆和发音——只要坚持努力，进步是迟早的事。正所谓“道不远人，人自远耳”。

莎士比亚《十四行诗集》第一首原文：

From fairest creatures we desire increase,
That thereby beauty’s rose might never die,
But as the riper should by time decease,
His tender heir might bear his memory:
But thou contracted to thine own bright eyes,

国内，我还没见过像样的莎翁《十四行诗集》。所以，别买书了，网上看看吧，或者去“爱问知识人”下载个外国原版的PDF用Kindle看。

回顾我的英语学习历程，由于“文革”等时代局限性，高中以后，就没有受过像样的教育，主要是东一榔头西一棒地自学。三十岁过了才第一次出国，去的还是柬埔寨。如今，我英语还不算特别差劲，无非下过些死硬的功夫而已。禀赋既劣，复失意于庠序，如今渐渐老去，要想超英赶美，除非梦中。

只能徒劳地劝告年轻的朋友们，希望诸位珍惜现在的条件，走对路数，好好学英语！

我的学生胜过我，后代人胜过前代人，这个前途阴霾笼罩的国家才会燃起青春的火焰。
