马票 lottery on horse racing

记者从有关方面负责人处获悉，海南已开始探索制定有关办法，拟对境外重大赛事进行联播竞猜，其中包括香港赛马等国际知名赛事。马票在香港由来已久，那么，马票的英文说法又是什么呢？

海南将试行赛马彩票——海南已经开始探索把博彩引入香港赛马等重大国际比赛中的方法。

在上面的报道中，lottery on horse racing就是“赛马彩票”，简称“马票”，就是跑马场为赌马者发行的彩票。Lottery除了表示“抽彩”外，还可以表示“碰巧的事，难于算计的事”。例如：Finding a job there is a lottery.（要在那儿找到一份工作全得凭运气。）Marriage is a lottery.（婚姻全靠缘分。）

现在比较流行的彩票有lotto（乐透彩票），football lottery（足球彩票），welfare lottery（福利彩票）。购买彩票的人就是lottery buyer（彩民）。彩民们到了lottery draw（开奖）这一天都会特别兴奋，都希望自己能够hit the jackpot（中头彩），成为lottery winner（彩票赢家）。
