如报道所示：我们汉语中所言的“屋子闹鬼”，用英语可表示为“The house is haunted”。Haunted源于动词haunt（鬼神出没），既然是“鬼神”，一定是以超自然的形态出没宅地了，由此“闹鬼”通常以被动形式出现，被隐去的“鬼怪”嘛，留给听者想象喽。

Haunt除表示“鬼神出没”外，也可用来指“经常去某地”或“经常去的地方”，如：As a girl, she used to haunt the local cinema.（还是小女孩时，她常去当地的电影院。）This pub used to be one of my uncle's favourite haunts.（这家小酒店是我叔叔过去常去的地方之一。）
